The Reason We Exist

crown2

Look at Psalm 57:5 this morning and meditate on what this verse says. "Be exalted above the heavens, O God; let your glory be above all the  earth."

One of the tragic yet often unrecognized ramifications or effects of sin is that we now elevate ourselves over God. It may indeed be that this lies at the root and leads to much of what we see in the way of sin in our lives, as we seek to exalt ourselves over all the earth rather than see God exalted over all the earth. We want to rule. We want to call the shots. Our wisdom rules over God's wisdom, or so we think in our sinfulness. The proper Creator-Creation relationship is destroyed.

The reality is that a large part of what God accomplishes in salvation and continues thru discipleship and maturity is the restoration of this proper perspective in our lives. That of seeking God's exaltation above all else. As John 3:30 declares, "He must increase, I must decrease." And finding joy in this being so in our lives.

We must contemplate this change and its reversal if we are live this Christian life as it was intended. It affects our entire being, seeking God's glorification over our own as it was intended to be. For this is to be our "experience" of salvation, the joy of bringing glory to the Father who saved us. This is indeed our created purpose.

We are right only when this posture is right. For much of our struggle is that of not taking God as He is and rather thinking we know better, and adjusting/submitting our lives to His will versus seeking to get God to adjust His will to our lives. We must take God as He is and love Him so, and seek that His glory be above all in all we do.

As Colossians 1:16 declares, "For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and the earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - ALL THINGS HAVE BEEN CREATED THROUGH HIM AND FOR HIM."

The reality is that we exist for the pleasure and glory of God, not the other way around as we like to think. We owe God every honor that we can offer. For He alone is worthy.

Think on this today. Seek to honor God with every moment of today. Shower upon Him the glory He alone is worthy of and deserves. Determine to exalt God above all else today.  For that is why we were created.
